The museum is housed in the beautiful Kronobageriet, a historic building from the 1600s. This site has previously served as a bakery, armory, and liquor cellar. As one of northern Europe’s oldest preserved industrial buildings, it\u2019s as much a part of the museum experience as the exhibits themselves.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n

The museum is a part of the Statens musikverk \u2013 National Collections of Music, Theatre and Dance<\/a>, an institution under the Ministry of Culture.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n

50,000 Objects \u2013 A World-Class Collection<\/h2>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n

The Swedish Museum of Performing Arts boasts an extensive collection of nearly 50,000 objects, including instruments, stage models, puppets, and stage costumes. Our instrument collection is among the largest in the world, with over 6,000 items, some dating back to the early 1600s.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n

Many of these objects are on display at the museum, while a majority are kept in storage. Our curators continually work on conservation, documentation, and support for research.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n
