This question has been central to the museum for nearly 125 years.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<p>Our mission is to safeguard Sweden\u2019s cultural heritage in dance, music, and theater. The collection preserves the artistic expressions of both craftsmanship and performance, as well as memorabilia and personal belongings of artists and performers.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History<\/h2>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<p>The museum&#8217;s collection has evolved through the merging of different collections from several museums, since 2010, they have been part of The Swedish Museum of Performing Arts&#8217; collection. Its content reflects the histories of the predecessor museums, and the objects preserved there.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s in the Collection?<\/h2>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<p>The museum\u2019s collection comprises over 50,000 objects spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Costume and Stage Decorations<\/h3>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<p>A significant portion is dedicated to theater and dance, featuring costumes, props, and stage decorations from numerous performances. The collection includes sketches for costumes and set designs, as well as models used by tailors and set builders to create finished pieces for the stage. Our collection provides a unique insight into the work of costume designers and set designers and how the magic of theater comes alive both on stage and behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Puppets from Around the World<\/h3>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<p>The museum\u2019s collection holds a vast array of objects from puppet theaters, ranging from small model theaters, often used at home, to large productions staged in theaters. While the focus is on Swedish puppet theaters, the collection also boasts an extensive international assortment of puppets from around the globe. While the focus is on classical and folk instruments, the collection also includes modern electronic instruments.<\/p>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preserving Performing Arts for the Future<\/h3>\n<\/external-link-icon><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"w-constrained richtext\"><external-link-icon>\n<p>Most of the objects are securely stored in our facilities to ensure their preservation for future generations.
